New theatre on Jízdecká Street

This original structure close to the downtown area will be constructed between Palacký Square and Jízdecká Street. An example of modern architecture, the theatre will replace the current Chamber Theatre (Komorní divadlo) on Prokopova Street. Emphasis has been placed on installing modern stage technology as well as on creating a user-friendly interior for the visitors it will serve throughout the day. Opera, plays, operette, musicals as well as concerts, exhibitions and a smaller stage will also operate. Space for a larger number of performances, ballet school, amateur theatre and training will open as well. The auditorium seats 500, and plans are in place to include a variable stage for another 200 viewers.

The design idea comes from the Portuguese studio CONTEMPORÂNEA, LDA. The architects are working on all of the project documentation with the contractor, the Helika–Ingem consortium. New theatre building should be opened in August 2014.
